In a meeting held on March 4, the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) received the Secretary of the RNIT, Captain Craig McLemore, and his delegation at the Casa del Soldado. The meeting marked a significant step in the collaboration between both organizations to promote a safer maritime environment in the American continent.
During the meeting, the new powers of the RNIT were presented, highlighting its role as Permanent Secretariat of advice and support to the Inter-American Naval Conferences (CNI), with the tasks, among others, of managing documents and disseminating information of interest to the members of the group, increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Network and the conferences, in order to contribute to coordination, mutual understanding and cooperation between the participating navies.
The IADB Secretariat made a presentation focused on its maritime security program, whose objective is to improve security throughout the hemispheric region. The IADB's Cyber Defense Program and the Disaster Cooperation Mechanism (MECODE) were also discussed in the debates, highlighting the contributions and products developed. These projects represent the IADB's ongoing efforts to provide effective tools and practical solutions to address security challenges in the Americas.
The meeting highlighted the importance of cooperation to optimize communications and integrate resources, promoting maritime security. Thus, the new purpose of the RNIT resonated with the objectives of the IADB, identifying several areas of future collaboration. Both parties expressed their interest in formalizing these cooperation opportunities, establishing clear objectives and joint actions for the effective implementation of measures that increase hemispheric maritime security.
The IADB is committed to continuing its valuable partnership with the RNIT, working side by side to promote a maritime environment that is not only secure, but also resilient to existing and emerging threats. This collaboration reinforces the commitment of the parties to protect the waters of the American continent, ensuring that their nations and populations can prosper in peace and security.
