On August 6, 2024, the III Workshop of the Maritime Security Program of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) brought together more than 5,200 participants from 47 countries. This virtual event, which took place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (Washington Time GMT -4), stood out as a significant milestone in the IADB's contribution to the adaptation of maritime security forces to the challenges posed by climate change.

The workshop provided a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences among participants, highlighting the importance of maritime security in protecting coastal populations and ocean resources. Discussions focused on the implementation of practical measures to strengthen the resilience of coastal communities and ensure the safety of maritime operations in the face of climate change.

Participation was open to all those interested in the topic, from professionals in the field to members of the global community, promoting broad international collaboration. The event offered simultaneous translation into Portuguese, Spanish and English, ensuring accessibility and inclusion of participants from various regions. All registrants received a diploma recognizing their participation and commitment to this vital cause.


Broadcast live on YouTube, the workshop emphasized the crucial role of international cooperation in addressing contemporary maritime challenges. Under the theme “Promoting and Strengthening Hemispheric Confidence and Security” of the IADB and “More Rights for More People” of the OAS, the event reinforced the need for coordinated actions for maritime security and sustainability.
