Between April 24 and 28, the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB), as an Observer Member of the Inter-American Naval Conference (CNI), participated in the IX Inter-American Naval Conference Specialized in Science, Technology and Innovation (CNIE-CT&I), in Orlando, Florida. The objective of the Conference was to promote joint work and the exchange of information, in addition to providing collaboration in Science, Technology and Innovation projects and activities among the participating Navies, which included military and civilian personnel from 13 countries in the Americas.
During the day, science, technology and innovation projects from the Navies of Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Colombia and Ecuador were presented; conferences from the United States Office of Naval Research; and technology demonstrations by the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD).
As part of the program, Captain Marcus Vinícius Barros de Andrade Monteiro, head of the IADB delegation at the event, presented the study carried out by the IADB on the regulation of the operation of unmanned systems and the Maritime Security Program of the IADB. Within this Program, the developing application “IADB Safe Seas” was presented, the objective of which is to provide the general public and the maritime community with open source information on crimes at sea, as well as useful information on maritime Search and Rescue events and alerts in general.
The CNI was created in 1959 and its objective is to promote the exchange of ideas, knowledge and mutual understanding of the maritime problems that affect the continent, stimulating permanent professional contacts between the Navies of the participating countries and promoting hemispheric solidarity.
